It is with the greatest sadness that I share the news of the death of Mr. Ian Daglish.

He was the pilot of a light aircraft that crashed on take-off in Manchester on Friday 29th July 2011

Ian had been an enthusiastic supporter of our SMATS military history group, and since the loss of Paddy Griffith (about a year ago), Ian had been a tremendous support to the group.

Ian published several books regarding the British Army's battles in Normandy, visiting the continent often, as a researcher and tour guide. His status as a historian was recognized by the BBC, for whom he gave interviews as a consultant on the subject of military history.

We shall miss him enormously, and our thoughts and prayers are with his widow, and their two daughters.
